Short answer: Google Classroom does not create transcripts by itself. The transcript depends on where the video comes from (YouTube, Google Drive, or a Meet recording).

- If it is a Drive or Meet recording, look for captions or a transcript file.

Step 1: Identify where the Classroom video is hosted
Open the video in Classroom and check the source:
- YouTube: the video opens on YouTube.
- Google Drive: the video opens in Drive.
- Meet recording: the file sits in a Meet Recordings folder in Drive.
This determines how you get the transcript.
Step 2: If the video is YouTube
- Open the video on YouTube.
- Click Show more in the description.
- Click ... and choose Show transcript.
- Turn timestamps off in the transcript panel.

Step 3: If the video is in Google Drive
Drive videos only have transcripts if captions exist:
- If captions are attached, ask the owner for the SRT or VTT file.
- If it is a Meet recording, look for the transcript document in Drive or Calendar.
- If nothing exists, download the video and transcribe it.

Step 4: If the video is a Meet recording
Meet transcripts are saved separately as Google Docs files.
- Check Drive > Meet Recordings.
- Search Drive for the meeting name plus "transcript".
- Look for a link in the Calendar event.

Turn a Classroom transcript into study notes
Once you have the text:
- Add section headings.
- Summarize each section into 3 to 6 bullets.
- Create visuals for complex topics in WhispriNote (mind maps, flowcharts, timelines).
